AJAC Awards 2020 Canadian Car and Utility of the Year Category Winners

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada has spent the day at the Montreal Auto Show, revealing 12 2020 Canadian Car and Utility of the Year award category winners. It's the next step in the process before the overall winners are revealed later this year.

More than 1,200 ballots were cast by AJAC members throughout the country, with several of our staff and contributors among the voters. From those ballots, 36 finalists, three in each of the 12 classes were chosen. These are the winners of each category for 2020.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Best Sports-Performance Car in Canada for 2020
Toyota Supra

Best Premium Sports-Performance Car in Canada for 2020
Porsche 911 Carrera

Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2020
Subaru Outback

Best Large Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2020
Kia Telluride

Best Small Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2020
Volvo XC40

Best Mid-Size Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2020
Porsche Cayenne

Best Pick-up in Canada for 2020
Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

Best EV in Canada for 2020
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (second consecutive win)

Best Premium EV in Canada for 2020
Jaguar I-PACE (second consecutive win)

"AJAC's Canadian Car of the Year category award winners are those vehicles deemed by our members to be the cars, SUVs, and trucks that are best suited to the realities of driving in Canada," said Stephanie Wallcraft, President of AJAC. "AJAC members comprise the largest collective group of automotive journalism expertise in the country, and they take pride in providing assessments that are objective, fair, and based on real-world road testing experience."

Now that the category winners have been revealed, the next step is the Toronto International Auto Show next month. There, the overall 2020 Canadian Car and 2020 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year awards, which will go two two of these 12 vehicles, will be awarded. Later in the year, at the Vancouver auto show, awards for Canadian Green Car and Green Utility of the Year will be awarded.
