While it won't come as much of a surprise, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has confirmed that the last Chrysler 200 will roll off of the assembly line in December of this year. The automaker still hasn't found another automaker interested in designing or building replacements for the 200 and the Dodge Dart and so with the 200 ending, FCA will have abandoned the small car market. For the time being, at least. The move will also mark the end of Chrysler passenger car production in the US, as their full-size Charger, Challenger, and 300 are assembled in Ontario.
The 200 never managed to hit sales targets, and demand for the company's pickups and SUVs is on the rise. That means that the Sterling Heights, Michigan, plant that built the 200 will get $1.5 billion to be retooled to assemble Ram 1500 trucks instead.
The Warren Truck Plant which currently builds Ram 1500 doesn't have a replacement product announced, but it is rumoured to be the future location of Jeep Grand Wagoneer assembly.
