Honda CR-V

Issue: On one CR-V Hybrid vehicle, wiring inside the transmission could be damaged by a broken part and cause the vehicle not to work in hybrid mode. This could cause a loss of power to the wheels, and you may not be able to restart the vehicle. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify the owner and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the seat belt buckles for the driver and front-passenger seats could wear over time and may not latch securely. If this happens, the seat belt could unlatch unexpectedly. Safety Risk: A seat belt that doesn't latch securely could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the driver and front-passenger seat belt assemblies. In most cases, the seat belt buckle release buttons will be replaced. If the dealer determines that a buckle can't be repaired, it will be replaced with a new part.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the low-pressure fuel pump could fail. If this happens, then engine may run rough or may not start and the check engine light may turn on. This could also result in a sudden loss of engine power while driving. Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada Recall No. 2020-236. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump motor.

Issue: On certain vehicles, exposure to moisture over time could cause the driver-front airbag not to inflate properly in a crash. In some cases, this could cause an airbag not to fully inflate, while in others it could cause it to deploy with more force than normal. It could also cause the inflator to rupture. If the airbag inflator ruptures, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent its proper function. Safety Risk: In a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the driver-front airbag may not inflate properly or the inflator could rupture. This could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. There may be a significant delay before replacement parts are available. The company will send you a second letter once replacement parts are available and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver-front airbag inflator. If the inflator requires replacement, a newly design part will be installed.

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Note: This is a new recall campaign that includes vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced under a previous recall or had a replacement airbag installed. The previous recall provided an interim (short-term) repair. Interim repair parts must be replaced with the final repair parts provided in this recall. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the driver and/or passenger-front airbag inflator. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

If the airbag inflator ruptures, pieces could be propelled toward the occupants. This could also cause damage to the airbag assembly and prevent it from inflating properly. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles that had a Takata airbag inflator installed during a previous airbag recall or collision repair. Safety Risk: In a crash where the airbag deploys, there could be an increased risk of injury. Corrective Action: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the driver-front airbag inflator replaced.

On certain vehicles, the electric power steering system could get caught in an infinite loop of steering assist going from lock to lock due to a manufacturing defect in the torque sensor. This could cause unintended steering input, reducing vehicle manoeuvrability, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly.

As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator. For the GL1800 model, dealers will replace the airbag module. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. Certain vehicles may have received an incorrect wiring harness for the passenger frontal airbag inflator during a previous recall repair (Transport Canada recall 2017-009). This could affect the proper function of the passenger frontal airbag, which could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect the passenger frontal airbag inflator to see if the correct wire harness was installed and, if necessary, replace the inflator and the wire harness with new parts.

Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. If the inflator components separate, this could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver frontal airbag module. Note: All affected units are still in the possession of dealers, and will be corrected before delivery.

On certain vehicles, during assembly, some of the connecting rod bolts may not have been torqued to the correct specification. If a connecting rod bolt was not torqued correctly, it could loosen and result in the engine making an unusual rattling/knocking noise, leaking oil, and/or engine failure. Engine failure would result in a loss of motive power, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine short block.

On certain vehicles, the secondary shaft bearing in the automatic transmission may fail. This could cause abnormal noise, the malfunction indicator lamp to turn ON, and allow contact between the transmission idle gear and an electronic sensor housing within the transmission, resulting in a short circuit that causes the engine to stall. Engine stalling would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, broken pieces may become lodged in the parking pawl resulting in the vehicle rolling after the driver has placed the gear selector in the PARK position. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will update the automatic transmission control module software.

On certain vehicles, excessive corrosion of the shift cable linkage may prevent the automatic transmission from shifting to Park. If the vehicle operator fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur. Correction: Dealer will inspect the shift cable linkage for corrosion. If the corrosion causes binding, replace the shift cable and install a new corrosion-resistant control pin.
