History/Overview
Introduced as a 2020 model, the CX-30 is an in-between compact crossover larger than the little CX-3 but smaller than the more family-friendly CX-5.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2021, the Mazda CX-30 GX gains automatic on/off headlights. A late addition to the 2021 lineup is the option of a 2.5L turbo four-cylinder engine.
Available Trims
Mazda offers the CX-30 in GX, GS and GT trims. GX uses a 2.0L engine, while GS and GT are standard with a non-turbo 2.5L. As of this writing, Mazda has not specified where it will offer the 2.5L turbo, but it will mostly likely be an option in the GT trim.
GX and GS start with front-wheel drive and option to AWD. GT is AWD-only.
Standard Features
CX-30 GX comes dressed with 16-inch wheels and tires, LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights, and rain-sensing front wipers.
Inside, there’s an 8.8-inch infotainment display, an eight-speaker stereo, Android and Apple smartphone integration, Bluetooth, air conditioning, keyless entry, push-button engine start, cruise control, power windows/locks/mirrors, LED cabin lighting, heated front seats, a 7.0-inch digital gauge display.
GX trim’s safety kit includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and tire pressure monitoring.
GS trim adds 18-inch wheels, automatic high beams, heated side mirrors, dual-zone air conditioning, a heated/leather steering wheel, radar cruise control, forward collision detection with city-speed automatic braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and driver attention alert.
GT’s additions are a sunroof, front and rear signature lighting, adaptive headlights with automatic levelling, an auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, a front wiper de-icer, rear parking sensors, power tailgate, a 12-speaker stereo, navigation, satellite radio, passive keyless entry, a head-up driver display, frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, integrated garage door opener, leather seating, a power driver’s seat, brown and satin chrome interior accents, rear automatic collision detection and braking, and traffic sign recognition.
Key Options
GS trim offers a luxury package that bundles a sunroof, leatherette seating, a power driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Fuel Economy
Mazda’s fuel consumption estimates are 8.9/7.1 L/100 km (city/highway) for the GX’s 2.0L engine and FWD, and 9.4/7.7 with AWD.
In GS trim, the 2.5L is rated for 9.3/7.1 L/100 km with FWD, and GS AWD and GT trim are rated 9.9/7.7 L/100 km.
Competition
Mazda’s key competition includes the Nissan Qashqai, Mitsubishi’s RVR, the Toyota C-HR, Subaru’s Crosstrek, and the Honda HR-V.
