Overall Score
It is very slow and unreliable. The engine his no power to go up hils. (Okay, let’s not get quite ahead of ourselves here on the ‘bargain’ front. First off, $200k is just a starting point for the R8 Spyder. For this particular 540 hp German thrill machine, its official $198,100 starting base price ballooned to more than $230k after options and freight. And this unit didn’t have the fancy optional sport exhaust that adds an extra button on the steering wheel hub that lets loose the hounds at the rear baffles, nor the available performance mode symbolized by a checkered flag on another steering wheel-mounted button that loosens up the stability control system as well. That Lambo Spyder started north of $289k, but also came with plenty of options, pushing its as tested price well up to over $344k. These two wouldn’t be the closest competitors, as that Huracán had a more powerful 602 hp engine V10 engine that’s largely the same unit as the R8 Plus Spyder’s 610 hp V10. That top R8 Plus Spyder starts at $229,500, so there’s still a $60k difference in base prices for vehicles there with essentially the same drivetrains and dimensions.)

Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the rear seat belt anchor bolts may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the rear seat belts may not work properly in a crash. Safety Risk: A seat belt that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the left and right rear seat belt anchor bolts. The bolts will be tightened, if necessary. Issue: On vehicles equipped with a jackknife-type folding key, over time the key blade may not stay locked in the fully extended (open) position. If you drive the vehicle with the key in the partially folded position, you could bump the ignition key and turn the engine off. This can cause a sudden loss of engine power, power steering and power brakes. This could also cause the airbags not to deploy in a crash. Note: This recall only affects vehicles that have an "S" trim level. Safety Risk: Airbags that do not deploy in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. A loss of power brakes can cause a sudden increase in brake pedal force and lead to an increase in stopping distance. A loss of power steering assist can cause a sudden increase in steering effort. A sudden loss of engine power could also increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you not to attach any accessories to the key fob, and to ensure that the key is fully extended before driving. As an interim repair, a dealer will install a fastener in the key slot to prevent the key from folding. Once replacement parts are available, you will need to return to a dealership to have a spacer inserted into the slot of the key fob that will stop if from collapsing.

Issue: On certain vehicles, water could leak into the electrical connections in the driver's footwell. This could cause problems with various electric systems (like the power windows or power seat) and the wiring harness could short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the dash side wiring harness. If necessary, they will replace the harness connector. The dealership will also apply grease to the connector to prevent water intrusion. Nissan advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the in-vehicle infotainment system to continuously reboot. If this happens, the rearview camera image will not appear on the display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and ask you to make an appointment with your local dealer to update the in-vehicle infotainment system software. For vehicles with over-the-air (OTA) update capability, Nissan will send a wireless over-the-air software update to each vehicle.

On certain vehicles, the steering gear housing cover screw may have been manufactured out of specification and the axial tension between the screw and gear housing may deteriorate over time. This could allow the screw to gradually loosen, which will cause the steering wheel to exhibit noticeable looseness from the steering assembly. If the vehicle continues to be driven in this condition, the screw may eventually come out of the steering gear housing. If large steering inputs are made with the cover screw missing, the pinion shaft may come out of the steering gear. This may result in a loss of steering control, which could lead to a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect whether the steering gear cover screw is loose. If it is loose, it will be retightened to the proper specification. In addition, the dealer will install a cover plate to prevent the screw from possibly coming out of the steering gear.
