NEW FOR 2010:
- New PZEV model
Completely redesigned for 2009, the 2010 Subaru Forester is unchanged, save for the addition of a new PZEV (Partial Zero Emission Vehicle) model.
The PZEV model is similar to the Legacy and Outback PZEV models introduced for 2009. It meets the Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) tailpipe standard and eliminates fuel system evaporative emissions. Subaru says that, compared with an average new vehicle, the PZEV models have 90 per cent cleaner emissions.
The Forester is offered with two engines: a 2.5-litre horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine in the 2.5X and PZEV, and a turbocharged and intercooled version in the 2.5XT. The 2.5X uses a five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic with manual shift mode, while the 2.5XT comes solely with the four-speed automatic. The PZEV also uses the automatic exclusively. All models feature Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system.
Features on the 2.5X include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, heated mirrors, raised-profile roof rails, privacy glass, anti-theft security system, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input jack, tilt and telescopic wheel with integrated audio controls, cruise control, heated seats in premium cloth upholstery, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats.
The 2.5X Touring adds 16-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, fog lights, chrome door handles, wiper de-icer, rear seat cushion table with integrated cupholders, reclining rear seats and cargo area tray.
The 2.5X Limited comes only with the automatic transmission and adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, Xenon headlamps, stainless steel rear step pad, six-CD premium audio system, leather-wrapped wheel, power-adjustable driver's seat, perforated leather seat inserts and woodgrain dash trim.
The turbocharged 2.5XT comes only in Limited trim and is similarly equipped to the 2.5X Limited.
The 2.5X Touring and Limited, and the 2.5XT Limited may be optioned with a new Multimedia option, which includes a navigation system.
Named the 2009 Best New SUV/CUV under $35,000 by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), the Forester is pleasant to drive, with a good seating position, great visibility, enough power in both engines, and now, a low-emissions option.
