2005 Toyota Matrix

by smmartin on 10-30-2017
a very reliable vehicle
I love my toyota matrix and it is still being driven. there is a surprising amount of cargo space when you fold down the back seats, it is great on fuel and has only ever needed regular maintenance. The downside is there are no arm rests, the seats are a little hard for long trips and the odometer stops at 299999km. great reliable vehicle that has lasted 12 years and still going strong as a daily driver

Reliable
Reliable car that is good on gas and cheap to insure. Would recommend. We have had it now for 7 years with no issues. Only complaint is the chimes are unique and get a little annoying after awhile

Economy at it's best
Compact and economical. Nothing fancy, but it's all-wheel drive and very reliable. Power windows, comes with new snow tires (used one season), and new all season tires, (just put on in October)

it's a good car
I have this car for about 10 years and it never had any problems. All I had to do was revisions. The fuel consumption is not that big.

Reliable car
Has been reliable with only some recent troubles after 140,000 Km, with the transmission. It was a rebuilt car that had a rear end accident and was written off. It was then rebuilt and certified. It is good on gas, travelling on average 525 to 550 km on a tank of gas.The styling is good and the ride is stable. I put winter tires on it as I live in Calgary, Alberta, and we can get snow anytime from October to April. Overall a good car for me.

Very reliable, low maintenance cost
I have had three Toyota's and they have all been very reliable with low maintenance cost . This 2007 matrix is the best one I ever had . My 1998 Camry was also very good . I have been driving it for 5 years , and I have been just doing normal maintenance on it, oils , filters , brakes , etc . It is very cheap transportation . I will keep it for a long time because it only has 91,400 kl's on it. The 1.8 L engine is big enough for the car. Its not a sports car but it will always get you where you want to go. My next car will probably be a Rav4 .

Very reliable
I have been driving this car for 5 years and it has given me no problems . One of the best cars I have ever driven for reliability and it is very roomy and comfortable to drive . You can fit four big adults in this car comfortably. No major maintenance , just regular stuff .

Comforting Second Home
This car is very comforting and reliable. I have had this car for almost 5 years and it has not failed me once! Although the interior and exterior design isn't that appealing considering how long ago I bought the car... the performance and fuel economy makes up for it. This car is my second house and I spend a lot of time every day; driving to work, going on vacation or just relaxing.

I love it!
Aside from brakes and tires and general maintenance this car has been great. Never let me down. I used this car for work in sales and did a lot of mileage on the highways. Summer and winter driving is a pleasure in my matrix. I love the way the seat folds down totally flat so that I could bring a lot of supplies to the work sites. I also drove this car on extended trips to the US and a few of the provinces without a hitch. I would buy this car again in a heartbeat if anything happens to this one. The mileage is not as good as stated and the brakes do need replacing often but it is still worth it to me as I like the way it rides.

Great Value
My Matrix has been extremely reliable with very little maintenance needed, even for a 5 year old vehicle. You can't beat the fuel mileage, but of course it lacks in the performance department as a result. The interior finished are very basic, if not cheap looking. Overall I would buy this car again.

horrible
The only thing this car had going for it was fuel economy.

The seats were uncomfortable, you required a pillow for the back seat if sitting on it for any length of time, the plastic panels and other plastic parts popped off constantly despite repeated attempts by the dealer to fix it. The car was recalled several times and had very poor visibility from the back because for some reason the designers thought that a tiny sliver of glass and a steel panel was a good replacement for the window of the previous model. Don't buy this car is junk.

Most Reliable Car
I have had this car for over 3 years and I can safely say that it has helped me in many daily struggles. It gets me to places on time and I only had to get it fixed once. Inside the car, it's really comfortable and the seats can recline which allows my daughter to sleep during long car rides. Overall, I will keep using this car until further problems show itself.

Good ride with one problem
Excellent vehicle overall but there is a problem for me with the seating that I have never experienced with other cars. The seat is not high enough so that I can judge how close I am to objects especially when parking. A seat booster does not help.

2011 Toyota Matrix

A decent dependable car
I remember my friend's dad said that I owned a "sober" car. I'm not sure what that means but it is dependable, reliable and as long as you get regular oil changes, you can drive this baby into the ground. I love the hatchback and fold down seats in the back. I have no idea why people would spend more money for a car when you can get something decent for the $12,000 used range that will last. SO sad that they don't make them anymore.

very practical and reliable
We have owned quite a few small wagons but the Toyota Matrix XR beats them all for its' "practicality and reliability". No issues over the 11 years other than the regularly maintenance. The back seats and passenger seat fold down flat and have a very durable hard surface for those days you have to move a lot of stuff. Fuel consumption is very good both in the city and the highway. We are finding it very hard to find a replacement for it without going to a larger vehicle.

Ting is mad sweet styll
Got this car like 3 years ago. I have spent countless hours in traffic with it and have yet to have a complaint about having to be in it. It drives very well, handles like a champ and has a pretty solid engine note as well (2.4L). The engine is peppy and has plenty of low end power. The suspension in the car is relatively tight, something I do not mind, but I can see how it would be jarring to some. The fuel economy for this car is not the best. On average, with a kind of heavy foot, I would average 300km a tank, all city, with a lighter foot I have averaged 350km per tank. On occasions where I have driven only on the highway, I have managed to get around 450km at a set speed. Other than routine maintenance (brakes, tires, oil changes), the car has required no major repairs. This vehicle also has fold flat rear seats which make it very easy to haul stuff around. Overall, I would recommenced this vehicle to other students and to people who on occasion need more space than the average sedan. I would absolutely buy this vehicle again.

2008 Toyota Matrix

Reliable
We bought a 2008 Matrix new.. It now has over 400, 000 km on it without any major problems. It was maintained by Toyota and brakes etc have been done, but it is a rock. The only thing that really went wrong was the odometer; it stopped at 399.000. There also was a nagging water leak between windshield and front doors. Toyota seemed baffled after 5 tries so we used silicon and it is gone. Wish I could buy a new one. We live near salt water and highly salted roads in winter and yet no rust at all

Love this car - One of Canada's few Hot Hatches
This is our second Matrix. We had the 2006 with the 1.8 in it which was a heavy gutless car. Handled reasonably well and rolled down the highway nicely but out of 2nd gear had no power at all.

When we got our second in 2010 we went with the 2.4, essentially the Camry engine in the Matrix. This is exactly what this car needed. It gets better mileage with the bigger engine for the type of driving we do and when you need to, it goes like HECK for a little 4 door family car.

Reliability has been top notch, replaced only the brake pads (again the driving we do) and with Pilot Sport tires it corners on rails. Unfortunately the CD player died as did the iPod connection hence my 3 stars for interior.

All around a great car. I will have this one rebuilt or find another one with low KM when this one is done.

Pretty no-frills
If you have stumbled upon this particular review, after looking at a thousand other reviews for the second (and final) generation Corolla Matrix, wondering if you should get one too -- look no further, the answer is no: they are ending production at this generation for a reason.

If you are 10 years old, you might like the botfly styling with underbite and compound eyes by chief engineer David Terai. If you are older than 10 years old, you will have to appreciate the botfly with underbite styling and compound eyes.

If you are under the age of 20, there isn't enough power. If you are over the age of 20, the suspension is too hard.

If you are made of petroleum, you will chemically fuse with the car because the interior is made entirely of cheap Pontiac plastic. If you are not made of petroleum, you won't ever satisfy the car's ever-so-big appetite for gasoline.

But if you are over 50 years old---which most Matrix buyers apparently are---then good news, your ears won't be able to hear all the dashboard squeaking and suspension banging and overdrive revving and highway road noise that this car makes!

Now, I got mine for cheap, so all this is justified. For you, maybe not so much.

Fabulously economical car
Had this car for 5 years and loved it. The hatchback is so handy for cargo. I even transported a 9 drawer dresser in it. Really good on gas. As long as you don't have more than 4 people to transport, it's a great choice. Too bad Toyota isn't making them anymore.
