Jaguar is getting set to turn out its "fastest series production vehicle," the F-Type SVR by dropping news of it in advance of the car's unveiling at the Geneva auto show next month.
SVR is the abbreviation for the brand's Special Vehicle Operations group. We're still trying to figure out what the R stands for, too... Less confusing is that group's mandate to take fast cars and make them faster: this newest F-Type variant cranks 575 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque out of its 5.0L supercharged V8 engine, a bump of 25 hp over the next-most powerful R.
In addition to that extra juice, the car is lighter by 25 kg (about 55 pounds), and optional carbon ceramic brakes, and carbon-fibre body bits cut another 25 kg from the car's mass.
Add it all up, and Jaguar says the car is capable of a 3.7-second 0-to-100-km/h sprint, and a top speed of 322 km/h.
Mechanical changes include an exhaust designed to take higher temperatures; an eight-speed transmission calibrated for quicker shifting; 265- and 305-section tires (10 mm wider than on the R); and a redesigned rear suspension knuckle Jag says does a better job of keeping the rear wheels vertical and the tires in contact with the road.
Jaguar says the SVO team reexamined the car's aerodynamic elements to reduce drag and lift, and improve engine cooling, but the company calls out a new deployable rear spoiler as the "single most effective device" developed for the F-Type SVR, its optimized design being more effective and aerodynamic whether it's up or down.
Inside are 14-way performance seats, and an instrument cluster swathed in suede.
The F-Type SVR goes on sale in Canada this summer; pricing starts at $142,000 for the coupe, and $145,000 for convertibles.
