Just ahead of the New York International Auto show, Chevrolet introduced the restyled 2017 Sonic. Styling changes include a new front fascia replacing the previous Sonic's separate, exposed headlights with a more corporate Chevrolet look that seems to be influenced by the Camaro and Malibu. The tail lights have been refreshed in a similar way, and LED daytime running lighting has been added.
New inside is a first in class power driver's seat, an available heated steering wheel, standard 7-inch touchscreen and an updated MyLink in car entertainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. The gauge cluster has also been revised to add an analog speedometer. Other new features include keyless open and start, heated cloth seats, and a 4G LTE hotspot that allows up to seven connected devices. New safety features include forward collision alert and lane departure warnings.
The engines and transmissions are carry-overs from 2016, with the 1.8L four and Ecotec 1.4L turbocharged four backed by a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. There will be four trim levels available, with LS, LT, and Premier, which replaces the previous LTZ trim. The RS model is now a package that can be added to (hatchback only) LT or Premier trims and comes with unique trim, mats and a flat bottomed steering wheel.
Canadian pricing is not yet available, but the 2017 Sonic should arrive at your Chevy dealer later this year.
