[Videos] Massive Crash Mars Micra Cup Opener in Ontario

The season-opening Nissan Micra Cup round in Calabogie, Ontario was marred by a massive multi-car pile-up in Race Two on Sunday that left several teams with a hefty repair bill.

Two videos published on RacingNorth.ca show the magnitude of the crash, during which the car of reigning champion Olivier Bédard is hit hard while rolling through the infield.

Miraculously, and despite major damage to several cars, all drivers were unhurt.

This angle shows Brian Makse, driver of the number 13 car, escaping the crash with cat-like reflexes.

Race 1 winner Kevin King, 2015 champion Olivier Bédard, pole-sitter and title favourite Nick Hammann as well as Frédéric Bernier, Valerie Chiasson, Chris Sahakian, and Normand Boyer were all caught up in the crash.

After a lengthy red-flag the race was won by Xavier Coupal.

The Nissan Micra Cup is a one-make racing series which debuted last year with a Quebec-only calendar. In 2016 the series will race at eight rounds in Quebec and Ontario.
