Chevrolet Recalls Cruze to fix Airbag Wiring Harness

Chevrolet and Transport Canada have announced a recall on the 2016 Cruze to reroute a wiring harness that could be damaged by the parking brake.

In 657 cars, the foot-operated parking brake could damage a wiring harness leading to the body control module (BCM), an electronic control unit that looks after the operation of items like power windows and locks and climate control.

In this case, Transport Canada's concern is a damaged harness could disable the car's driver knee airbag, increasing the risk of injury to the driver in a frontal crash. Chevrolet is asking its dealers to make the simple-but-effective modification of using tie straps to keep the wiring out of the way of the parking brake mechanism.
