Audi A5 and S5 Sportbacks Revealed

The all-new Audi A5 and S5 coupes were first shown back in June. And while they had new engines, quattro all-wheel drive, and a new platform that helped trim nearly 100 kg versus the outgoing model, the new car was lacking something.

Well it seems like Audi's in agreement, so they've just unveiled the hatch. That is, the A5 and S5 Sportback models. They've got five doors, one of which is a hatch. So it's the four-door version of the coupe, and it's got a lift gate, but it's still styled like a coupe, so there's no trunk. Got it? Neither do we, but with the proliferation of models on top of models from the German luxury manufacturers lately it all makes perfect sense.

The best part of the new one is that the rumours are running rampant that we're finally going to get this one on our roads. The A5 comes with a pair of gas engines and a pair of diesels, but the one we would most likely get is the 2.0L turbo four making 252 hp and 273 lb-ft. More than enough to get the small car moving briskly. If that isn't enough, the S5 will have a 3.0L turbo six that makes 354 hp, 396 lb-ft, and can do 0–100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The S5 will also get upgraded sport suspension, brakes, and interior.

Inside, the Sportback will have the A5's cabin, so it gets the 8.3-inch infotainment screen, while Audi's 12.3-inch LCD virtual cockpit replaces the instrument cluster.

The official unveiling of the Audi A5 and S5 Sportback will be at the Paris Motor Show at the end of this month.
