Chevrolet's compact electric Bolt EV is now available to order at Canadian dealers. Deliveries of the electric hatchback will start in early 2017.
The Bolt will start at $42,795, but tax credits in Ontario can bring that down to as low as $31,434. Quebec ($8,000) and BC ($5,000) also offer rebates on the EV, with a further $3,250 available in BC if you retire your former road-going gas or diesel vehicle. Because of those incentives, the Bolt EV will only be available at dealers in those three provinces at launch. If you're in the rest of the country, there won't be a long wait, as the Bolt EV is expected to roll-out nationwide within 12 months.
That pricing makes the Bolt EV the lowest cost long-range EV on the market in Canada. The Bolt offers a US EPA estimated 383 km range on a full charge (Natural Resources Canada ratings have not been finalized), thanks to a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 200 hp electric motor. That range is more than double that of the Kia Soul or Ford Focus EVs, and is longer than the claimed range for the yet to be released Tesla Model 3.
