On the heels of the recent releases of the new E-Class sedan, wagon, and lifted-wagon All-Terrain, Mercedes-Benz has just revealed the all-new E-class coupe. The car will arrive in Canada in Summer 2017, with a 329 hp V6 and all-wheel drive.
The big coupe shares a platform with the new E-Class sedan, which means that the new car will be 123 mm longer than the old model with a similar increase in wheelbase, and an extra 74 mm in width. That means that there will be more room inside, with additional leg, head, and shoulder room, especially in the back seat. The sleek design, with no B-pillar giving it a classic hardtop look, takes its cues from the new S and C-class coupes, which is no bad place to look for inspiration.
The interior is largely from the sedan as well, with the notable exception of the turbine-inspired air-vents lending a degree of sportiness. The interior can be had with twin 12.3-inch displays, one for the instrument panel and one for the center infotainment, combined behind a single lens. This gives a widescreen cockpit effect and the displays can be configured by the driver. The steering wheel has touch control buttons that allow the driver to use gestures to adjust the radio and instrument cluster. The infotainment system they will be controlling supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The coupe gets two unique wood trim options as well.
Canada will get just one engine option at launch. We will receive the E 400 4MATIC, which has a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 producing 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. 4MATIC is Mercedes-speak for all-wheel drive, and the only gearbox will be a nine-speed automatic.
The coupe will offer a sportier suspension than the sedan, which includes a 15 mm lowering. Adjustable dynamic damping and air suspension should be available.
The E-Class coupe will debut at the North American International Auto Show this January in Detroit before going on sale this summer.
