New Camaro GT4.R Sounds Amazing, Looks Fast

The Corvette C7.R isn't the only Chevrolet that is going to be tearing up tracks in GT racing this year. Team Chevrolet has just given us a big tease of the Corvette's little brother, the Camaro GT4.R.

Like the name implies, the Camaro GT4.R will be based on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. It is one of the newest entries in series running the GT4 class that includes IMSA's Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and the Pirelli World Challenge's GTS class along with other GT4 series around the world. That puts it up against cars like the Ford Mustang, Audi TT, Porsche Cayman, Nissan 370Z, the Mercedes-AMG GT4, BMW's M4 GT4, and more.

So what does the Camaro GT4.R get to compete in a busy and increasingly popular class? For starters, it's built by Pratt and Miller, the same company that develops the Corvette factory racers. The rendering and video show off a massive rear wing and front splitter and dive planes to add downforce. The gearbox is a six-speed sequential designed by Xtrac with air-shifting. There's also an Xtrac rear differential and adjustable traction control. The shocks are racing dampers by Ohlins, and the brakes are six-piston Brembos with adjustable ABS. That glorious noise you'll hear in the video is a dry-sump and track modified 6.2L LT1 V8 developed by Chevrolet Racing.

One thing is for sure: fastest or not, this Camaro will be one of the best sounding cars in a top-notch GT4 field this year.
