Mercedes Bringing Drop-top E-Class, Three AMG Specials to Geneva

Mercedes is sending a slew of new models and special editions to the stage at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Front and center will be three 50th anniversary specials from AMG and the all-new E-Class cabriolet.

The open-top E-Class finishes the E-Class family, sitting alongside the wagon, All-Terrain, coupe, and sedan that have all been recently revealed or launched. This is the first E-Class convertible that will be built on the E-Class platform. Previous models have been modified C-Class or CLA based. For now, Mercedes-Benz is just giving us a tease of the look, but a fabric-topped E-Class coupe isn't too hard to picture. Mercedes says it will give high levels of comfort for four on even long trips.

2017 is the 50th anniversary of AMG, Mercedes' high-performance branch. To mark the occasion, Mercedes-AMG is releasing three special editions in Geneva. Surprisingly for AMG, they are paint and trim specials, not more power and stickier tires specials. The first is the AMG GT C Roadster edition 50. Just 500 will be built, and it can be recognized by the unique Graphite Grey Magno paint. Other touches include black chrome in the side skirts, splitter, and air intakes. The wheels are finished in a similar black chrome.

Inside, you'll find more black and silver. The Nappa leather seats are finished in those colours, with contrasting grey stitching. The car gets the AMG Night Package interior which adds black steering wheel spokes, shift paddles, and door sills. The Edition 50 GT has the standard 4.0L twin-turbo V8 pushing out 550 hp and 502 lb-ft, backed by a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.

On the lighter side, there is the C63 cabriolet Ocean Blue. That model will only have 150 units built. It comes in Cashmere White Magno paint with a Deep Ocean Blue convertible top. The exclusive paint colour is also highlighted on the bumper cover and wheel center caps.

The interior is covered in Crystal Grey Nappa leather with diamond quilting. The contrasting stitching is Deep Ocean Blue, matching the top. Those seats get Benz's Airscarf neck-heating vents to help you stay cozy with the top down all year. The interior is trimmed in AMG matte silver fiberglass trim. The C63 has an AMG 4.0L twin-turbo V8 making 503 hp.

The third special is a Performance Studio Package for the C43 coupe and convertible. On this one, the grille inserts are black instead of chrome. The trim on the trunk, bumpers, side skirts, and tail pipes are all gloss black. Inside, the flat-bottom steering wheel is also black. The C43 coupe and convertible get an AMG-tuned 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with an output of 362 hp and 384 lb-ft.

All three specials will be available for order this summer, with the E-Class cabriolet expected later this year as well.
