2017 Nissan Qashqai Will Start Under $20,000

Nissan has just released pricing for their all-new Qashqai compact SUV. The newest Nissan fits in just under the 2017 Rogue in the lineup, so the price comes in just under that, with the Qashqai S starting at $19,998. The Qashqai (say cash-kai) is new to North America this year, but the three-quarter size Rogue has been available for a nearly decade in the rest of the world.

The Qashqai (say cash-kai) is new to North America this year, but the scaled down Rogue - it will actually be badged Rogue Sport in the US - has been available for a nearly decade in the rest of the world. The Qashqai is bigger than 2017 Nissan Juke, but 307 mm shorter than Rogue at 4,379 mm long. The compact size crossover segment is heating up, with vehicles like the 2017 Mazda CX-3 and 2017 Honda HR-V selling well.

The under $20k base model is one of just a handful of SUVs that are still available with a manual transmission. If you want one, the six-speed is base model and front-drive only. The S is also available as an automatic for an additional $2,000, and with an automatic and all-wheel drive for $24,198.

All Qashqai models get a 2.0L twin-cam four that makes 141 hp. The manual box is a six-speed, and all automatic cars get Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable transmission.

Nissan hasn't said which trim will get what equipment just yet, but says that leather seats and a heated wheel will be available and that all trims will get heated front seats and a rearview camera. NissanConnect navigation is optional, with a 7.0-inch touchscreen. Nissan will offer radar cruise control, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, and lane keeping assist as well.

The 2017 Nissan Qashqai will go on sale this June.
