The Subaru Legacy gets some new styling, some transmission changes, and some braking system tweaks for 2018. To go with that, the price takes a $200 hike to $24,995. Take Subaru off the dwindling list of midsize sedans with a stick though. The manual transmission is gone this year.
The 2018 Legacy gets a new front grill and bumper, along with changes to the mirrors and the rear fascia. The changes are subtle, with the most noticeable visual cue being the new horizontal bar in the grille.
Under the skin, Subaru has strengthened the chassis, improved the child seat anchors, and added a feature to automatically unlock the doors in the event of a collision.
The standard infotainment system is bumped from 6.2 to 6.5-inches and has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It can be controlled from revised steering wheel controls mounted to a new wheel. New front door glass helps reduce interior noise.
All 2.5i models now have a PZEV rating, which was previously an option. That means they have zero evaporative emissions; no fuel vapours can escape the fuel system, improving their green-car credentials.
The CVT on 2.5i gets a seven-speed manual mode to allow drivers to pick a virtual gear. The brake booster is revised to improve stopping power.
2.5i Touring gets new 17-inch wheels and adds a revised dash. The centre vent, HVAC controls, and instrument panel get updated, as well as the inside door trim. It bumps the infotainment system to 8.0-inches and has new HVAC controls with digital readouts.
2.5i Sport models equipped with Subaru's EyeSight active safety suite get new chrome fog light trim, and 2.5i Limited with EyeSight gets new door trim as well as seat trim with what Subaru calls "real stitching."
3.6R Limited models with the EyeSight package get new LED foglights and a special front grille.
