We knew the 2018 Ford EcoSport, the brand's first subcompact crossover, was set to arrive here around the time Canadians flipped their calendars to begin 2018. What we didn't know what what it would cost -- until now.
But that information didn't come in an official announcement made around the time of the car's arrival in dealerships, as is customary. Instead, we discovered that Ford's latest utility is already listed at Ford.ca with a starting price of $21,999.
That's for the entry-level S trim. An SE model comes in at $24,999, the Titanium at $28,499 and an SES variant carries an MSRP of $29,299.
It may pique your interest, as it did ours, that the Titanium trim is not the most expensive, even though that badge is typically attached to the most comprehensively equipped version of any Ford model. That anomaly is due to the SES being the only EcoSport trim that comes standard with AWD; four-wheel traction is optional at the other three price points.
Front-wheel drive models -- S, SE and Titanium -- use a 1.0L turbo three-cylinder engine (the same one offered in the Fiesta and Focus) that lends the EcoSport 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. Opt for AWD and you get a 2.0L four-cylinder good for 166 hp and 149 lb-ft. A six-speed automatic is standard across the board. If you want a manual in a tiny crossover, you'll have to shop elsewhere.
