The latest updates to the Mercedes-AMG C 43 brings more power and a new steering wheel. Oh, and the wagon joins the party, getting the AMG 43 treatment for the first time in this country, but won't be offered in the US.
The C 43 has been available in sedan, coupe, and convertible, and has been on the market for two years. Now the sedan is getting a refresh, and a new family member is joining the party. The long roof version gets the AMG 43 treatment for the first time here, and is set to arrive in late summer. That adds family-hauling power – and 1,030L of cargo space – to the C-Class, and while it's not exactly the full-fat C 63's V8, it is definitely appreciated.
After the addition of the wagon, the big news is more power. The 3.0L twin-turbo V6 has been boosted from 362 hp to 385. That's a 23 hp increase, more than enough to notice. Torque remains unchanged at 384 lb-ft, but it's now available over a wider range, from 2,500 rpm to 5,000 rpm. Last year's torque peak was from 2,000 to 4,200. Both models use a nine-speed AMG Speedshift automatic with a rear-biased AMG 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
Outside, the sedan and wagon receive a new AMG grille with twin louvres, and now in matte silver. The front apron is revised and adds new detailing, along with side air curtains to improve airflow. In the rear, the twin tailpipes are gloss chrome. The rear diffuser is more pronounced and the trunk spoiler is body colour.
Inside, the refreshed AMGs get an optional fully digital cockpit. It replaces the gauges with a 12.3-inch screen that has customizable gauge choices. The AMG steering wheel is also new, and adds touch control buttons from the S-Class that use touch sensitive pads on the wheel to control the cruise control and infotainment functions.
The updated C 43 sedan and all-new wagon will be available later this year.
