Four-Door AMG GT Gets Launch Edition Special

To show off the new four-door AMG GT, Mercedes-AMG is bringing a launch package with unique bits inside and out. But this special edition is more than just fancy trim, it improves the car's handling.

The AMG GT Edition 1 four-door 'coupe' will wear special designo Graphite Grey Magno paint, along with black accented 21-inch AMG wheels. The Edition 1 also gets a unique aero package that adds a big front splitter with integrated vents along with an optimized rear diffuser and a mechanically adjustable rear spoiler. That spoiler lets the driver adjust the aerodynamic balance of the car to suit their style or desired handling balance. Do you want that tail stable, or ready to hang out?

With that spoiler maxed out, Mercedes-AMG says that it develops noticeably more downforce at the rear than the standard car. With the Airpanel active grille louvres closed, the front splitter also helps reduce lift at the nose.

Inside, the Edition 1 has AMG performance seats in Magma Grey and Black Nappa leather with yellow contrast stitching. The steering wheels is microfiber with yellow stitching and the car has matte carbon trim. If that's all too subtle, the car wears yellow seatbelts and gets yellow stitching on the dash and floor mats.

The Edition 1 special edition will only be available on the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S. That means a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that produces 630 hp and 664 lb-ft, with a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive with drift mode.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S four-door is expected to arrive sometime early next year, but the Edition 1 models will be towards the end of 2018, says Mercedes-Benz Canada. No confirmation yet of Canadian pricing, but the AMG GT Coupe Edition 1 offered in Canada in 2015 cost roughly $11,000 more than the standard $149,900 of that GT S trim model.
