After some very clear photos of the new car leaked yesterday, Audi has gone ahead and revealed the updated third-generation TT a little early, giving us full photos of the refreshed sports car in coupe and convertible forms.
It has been 20 years since the TT first entered production. The bathtub shape, sleek styling, and available baseball-glove interior soon changed into an increasingly sharper car, both in the styling and in the performance departments. Now Audi is refining the car with some updates to spread the tech features across the lineup and keep the styling current.
The exterior changes aren't huge, but the car gets a new three-dimensional radiator grille. Larger new air inlets are standard across the board, not reserved for the fastest versions. Matrix LED lights join the options list with OLED taillamps showing up as well. The TT's signature silver fuel filler is now capless under the flap, adding convenience and a bit of cool to the filler. The rear diffuser has also grown wider.
Inside, sports seats are standard, with pneumatic bolsters available. The 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit display in front of the driver that in the TT means no center stack screen now has a new optional sport display. Like in the current TT RS, it will display engine output, torque, and g-forces.
Full Canadian specs haven't been revealed, but other market info suggests we might see a power boost. In the UK, the 2.0L turbo four will come in 194 hp (replacing a 1.8L that we don't get now), 242 hp, and a 302 hp TTS. Since we currently get a 220 hp 2.0 and a 292 hp version in the TTS, those cars could see a 22 and 10 hp bump, respectively.
The 2018 TT RS is rated at 400 hp, but no word yet on what the next-gen version will put out.
The new 2019 Audi TT is expected to arrive at dealers in Europe late this year, and we're expecting it to come here not long after. Full specs should be available closer to it going on sale.
