One of the most notable vehicles to be sold in Canada but not the US will be going away after this model year. 2019 will be the last ride for the B-Class.
In Canada, that is.
The small Mercedes not-quite-a-van, or maybe just a tall hatchback B was introduced here in 2005. The second-gen B arrived for 2013 after the badge took a year off. It came with a more upright and upscale looking body and some new powertrains. That second generation was sold in the US, but only as an electric vehicle. It was then dropped there last year.
The B-Class is currently offered as the B 250 with a 2.0L turbo four. All-wheel drive is optional. It sits as the most affordable entry into the Mercedes-Benz lineup.
It sold reasonably well over the years, with a high of 3,207 in 2013 and topping 2,000 most years.
Mercedes-Benz has just announced that a new B-Class will be making its first appearance at the Paris Motor Show, next month. With that new model, comes the end to the B's story in Canada. A Mercedes spokesperson has confirmed that the B-Class will be available as a 2019, but that's the last year the company will be offering it in Canada.
While it's not a replacement for the similarly sized B hatch, the much more stylish and high-tech A-Class will be coming to Canada in both hatch and sedan forms. And while the sedan will be sold south of the border, we're keeping the hatch to ourselves. As well as, you know, the rest of the world.
