GMC has just revealed a refreshed Acadia mid-size crossover. With a new engine, shifter, and a grille that borrows a whole lot from the Sierra pickups. They've also expanded the AT4 trim to the Acadia that launched on the pickups for 2020.
Up front, the 2020 GMC Acadia loses the small, and almost subtle octagonal grille of the 2019 model for a bigger, bolder, and chrome-ier (at least on Denali, the AT4 gets blacked out) rectangular face. It looks like a trimmed-down version of the big grille on the pickups. Beside that grille are new headlights, with standard LED lighting and a shorter version of GMC's C-shape running light.
New under the hood is a dual-scroll turbo 2.0 L four making 230 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Cylinder deactivation will let it run as a twin in certain conditions to save fuel. The 2.5 L naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 193 hp and 188 lb-ft will remain, as will the 3.6 L V6 with 310 hp and 217 lb-ft of torque. Paired with all of those engines will be a new nine-speed automatic transmission that GMC says will offer better acceleration and efficiency with less noise. The automatic will get the GMC Electronic Precision Shift, a.k.a. the button-operated shifter from the Terrain that frees up space in the centre console.
GMC has also upgraded the infotainment system to the automaker's latest version. GMC says this means better voice recognition, a higher-resolution 8.0-inch screen, and a simplified user interface. GM's rear camera mirror is available on Denali trim.
AT4 trim now adds what GMC calls a "rugged, off-road-inspired design" to the Acadia. This means black trim and wheels, wrapped in all-terrain tires, along with the V6 with twin-clutch all-wheel drive as standard. The 2020 Acadia goes on sale this fall.
