2022 Genesis GV70 Compact Luxury Crossover Debuts

Genesis Motors has just revealed the brand's second crossover. The GV70 is the luxury brand's first compact SUV and fifth model overall, and it's likely to quickly climb to the top of the monthly Genesis sales charts.

The GV70 (the G is for Genesis, the V for Versatile) showcases the brand's new design language we have seen so far on the new GV80, G80, G90 and G70, featuring a large pentagonal grille flanked by thin quad headlights. The theme is matched at the back with the stacked thin taillight elements that Genesis uses on its other models. The side profile, though, stands out from the crowd by being a bit unusual. The sharp line that runs from the hood through the doors and fuel filler to the taillights works well, but the coupe-like line that runs from the top of the doors and then down through the rear quarter glass leaves a tiny back-side window that, while not unappealing, marks a departure from the cohesion of the rest of the design.

Inside, the wide dash has an interesting oval shape that holds switches and controls to the driver's left and what looks to be a touchscreen for climate controls is definitely unique for Genesis. That touchscreen sits below a massive widescreen infotainment display, though Genesis didn't say exactly how large it was. The GV70 was shown with both a traditional three-spoke and the current Genesis trend two-spoke steering wheels and equipped either way, the cabin looks exquisitely detailed.

In addition to the three-spoke sport wheel, a Sport package model will include a special bumper and 21-inch wheels, along with dark chrome finishes and interior colours and finishes including carbon fibre appointments.

Powertrain info has yet to be revealed — the vehicle isn't set to hit the U.S. until next year — though we'd expect the engines to be from elsewhere in the current Genesis stable. Canadian production has yet to be confirmed, but we'd expect it here shortly after arrival south of the border with more info closer to launch. Expect the 2022 Genesis GV70 to arrive with standard all-wheel drive, as is the case with the entire brand's lineup.
