2021 Mazda CX-5, CX-9 Get Mid-Year Refresh With New Infotainment, Revised Feature Lists

Following the best-ever sales month for the CX-9, Mazda has announced that its three-row crossover, along with the smaller CX-5, will be getting a mid-year refresh for 2021.5. The changes include an update to the brand's latest and biggest infotainment system and screen along with added connectivity for both, more standard safety features for the CX-5, and a few other features making their way down to more entry-level trims.

The biggest change is the 10.25-inch centre display screen with Mazda's latest infotainment interface, as already seen in the Mazda3. The new screen offers much sharper graphics than the previous iteration and is faster and easier to use as well. Mazda Connected Services will allow users to monitor their Mazda and control features like remote start and door locking through the app.

The 2021.5 CX-5 makes "i-Activsense" technology suite standard for the GX trim, adding radar cruise, smart brake support front and rear, pedestrian detection, and lane-keep and lane-departure warnings to the existing blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The GX trim also includes LED lights, heated front seats, and rain-sensing wipers. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included with the new system on CX-5 and CX-9, but the GT trim loses the wireless version of the system. The Kuro trim will continue to be offered through the half-year, adding black leather with red stitching as an option in addition to the existing garnet red seating.

The 2021.5CX-9 adds wireless charging to the GS-L trim, formerly reserved for GT and higher. The rest of the model's trim and feature lineup remains the same.

There are some pricing changes for the new models, with the CX-5 starting from $28,950, $350 more than at the start of the year. The CX-9 starts from $40,300, $300 more than before. Both 2021.5 models will hit dealers nationwide next month.
