Refreshed 2022 Honda Passport Adds Rugged TrailSport Model

The refreshed 2022 Honda Passport has been unveiled and a rugged new TrailSport model that promises to expand on the capable crossover’s go-anywhere attitude has been added to the lineup.

The 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport is easy to identify thanks to its unique grille, faux front and rear skid plates, pewter-painted 18-inch wheels and orange TrailSport exterior badges. The front and rear track widths on the Trailsport model are also 10 mm wider than on the regular Passport, giving the crossover more road presence and stability. Other standard equipment on the TrailSport includes torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, Honda’s own Intelligent Traction Management tractional control system, and a heated windshield wiper for those, long cold Canadian winters. Inside, these models will feature orange contrast stitching and standard all-season rubber floor mats.

Going forward, Honda says the “off-road capability of the Passport TrailSport will increase further with possible future upgrades such as more aggressive tires and off-road-tuned suspension.” We imagine this hinges on the initial market response to the Passport TrailSport, so any Honda fans that like the sound of these potential factory upgrades should head down to their local dealer and let the company know what they think of the idea.

Standard Honda Passport models also receive small updates for the 2022 model year. Changes include a more aggressively styled front fascia, a new bumper with larger exhaust cutouts, and new standard rear seat reminder and rear seatbelt reminder systems. The automaker’s 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 remains the only engine option and is paired exclusively with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive comes standard on TrailSport and Elite trim levels and is available as an option on the EX-L trim.

Rounding out the changes made to the 2022 Honda Passport is a new HPD Package, which was conceived by the Honda Performance Development racing division. The package adds a unique grille treatment to the crossover, along with black fender flares, a different alloy wheel design and HPD graphics on the rear quarter panel.

The 2022 Honda Passport is produced at the Japanese automaker's plant in Lincoln, Ala. Canadian market details like pricing, fuel economy and availability will be released at a later date.
