2023 Acura Integra Returns with Manual Transmission, Pricing in 'Mid-$30K' Range

The Integra is back. Acura has revived one of its most storied nameplates and fans can celebrate because it's not going to be stuck on the back of a crossover. The 2023 Acura Integra will be a turbocharged five-door hatchback with Honda's VTEC, which will make the model feel like an upscale version of the Civic Si.

Acura called the sleek hatch a "prototype" during the reveal, but Acura and Honda have a history of making production models that look exactly like the prototypes, leaving us confident that little of the exterior will change. Wide rear arches and dual exhaust tips give it a planted stance in the back while it will get Acura's new frameless version of its Diamond Pentagon grille up front. Acura's jewel LED headlights are present and, another nod to the previous generations, the name Integra will be embossed into the bumpers both front and rear.

The prototype is painted in Indy Yellow, a colour used on the 2020 NSX that was a nod to Spa Yellow from the first generation of that car. Acura points out that it's also an homage to Phoenix Yellow, the boldest shade offered on the iconic Integra Type R. Black accents highlight the roof, rear spoiler, and mirrors, and there is a wonderfully retro Integra graphic along the side sills.

Acura did not unveil the performance details of the car but did say that it will offer a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The brand implied that an automatic would be offered, a big change over the Civic Si, which is only available with a manual transmission. It will have a "high-output" 1.5L turbo four-cylinder, and while horsepower wasn't provided, expect at least the 200 hp offered by the Civic. 19-inch wheels on the prototype cover Brembo brakes with Indy Yellow calipers that will help stop the sport compact hatch.

The brand said that, like the original, this will be the "gateway performance model" in the Acura lineup. It's set to start from "in the mid $30,000s" when it goes on sale in the first half of next year. Expect the automaker to reveal more details very early next year as the car nears its on-sale date.
