2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe and Cabriolet Debut to Streamline Lineup

Echoing the 1997 to 2010 CLK two-door, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe replaces the outgoing two-door versions of the compact C-Class and mid-size E-Class, all part of the German automaker’s strategy to reduce the number of gas-powered models as it expands it all-electric lineup.

Roomiest in its Class

Based on an aluminum platform – also used by the C-, E-, and S-Class sedans, along with other Mercedes-Benz models – the new 2024 CLE gets a unique, longer wheelbase that offers more space than the 2023 C-Class two-door it replaces. This stretch helps Mercedes claim the new two-door is the largest coupe in the mid-size segment. Rear passengers benefit from additional head, shoulder, elbow, and knee room. According to the automaker, the trunk volume offers approximately 60 litres of additional space and can easily accommodate three golf bags.

As for its exterior looks, the new 2024 CLE is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Like the current E-Class Coupe, the CLE gets a long hood, sweeping roofline, sleek C-pillar treatment, a heavily raked rear window, and a trunk lid within a rounded rear end. However, like the outgoing C-Class Coupe, the new CLE receives a B-pillar – something the E-Class two-door didn't have.

Interior Inspired by C-Class Sedan

The new two-door’s cabin borrows heavily from its Mercedes-Benz C-Class four-door sibling that was all new for 2023. Highlights include a separate 12.3-inch digital driver display and an 11.9-inch central portrait display. Standard 64-colour ambient lighting extends from the centre console to beneath the outer air vents.

Developed exclusively for the CLE, the front seats are fitted with two headrest speakers when buyers opt for the Burmester 3D surround sound system. There’s also a new seat belt assist mechanism: for the first time in a Mercedes, the CLE’s front seats are unlocked with a loop made of Nappa leather located on the backrests.

Mercedes-Benz will also offer the CLE with Level 2 automated driving assistance technology. Options include a head-up display unit and a panoramic glass roof.

Mild-Hybrid Power and All-Wheel Drive Standard

When the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe and Cabriolet go on sale next year in Canada, the first models will be badged CLE 300 4MATIC. They share the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder gas engine and 48-volt electrical system as found in the current C 300 4MATIC Sedan. In total, the mild-hybrid system produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

As in the existing C- and E-Class lineups, the new 2024 CLE uses a nine-speed automatic transmission. Along with Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC AWD system, the CLE will have an extensive list of standard safety technologies, including driver alertness monitor, emergency braking and the parking assist with reversing camera.

As with the previous C- and E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, we anticipate that sportier AMG-engineered CLE models are waiting in the wings.

When Will the New 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe Go on Sale in Canada?

Manufactured exclusively at Mercedes-Benz’s Bremen plant in Germany for all markets, the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE 300 4MATIC Coupe will arrive in Canadian dealerships by early 2024. The 2024 CLE 300 4MATIC Cabriolet will follow in mid-2024.

There's no word on Canadian pricing yet, but the current 2023 C 300 4MATIC Coupe’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price in Canadian dollars starts around $55,000, and the Cabriolet at $63,000.
