Toyota is giving its popular Corolla the most advanced set of standard safety equipment in its class for 2017, which is the 50th anniversary of Toyota's compact Civic and Elantra-fighter. Toyota has added their safety sense P package, which includes pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, radar cruise control, and automatic high beams to all trim levels, even on the base CE model.
Styling-wise, the most noticeable changes are the new head and tail lights, with standard LED headlights, along with front and rear bumpers. The changes aren't huge, but the grille is revised with a larger top opening, and the fog light cut outs have been extended. The new look gives it more of a Prius resemblance. The fog light openings also have new strakes, with LED accent lights available.
Under the skin, there is a new dashboard, along with new interior trim choices. Toyota has finally ditched the four-speed automatic found on base models. All automatic transmission cars feature a continuously variable transmission. Manual transmission cars get a six-speed.
There are some upgrades to the different trim models as well, as the CE now features a 6.1-inch display audio system and LED headlights. LE has automatic climate control and a wiper de-icer system. The upgrade pack with the sunroof adds a heated steering wheel. SE gets a larger 4.2-inch info display in the dash, and LED accent lights, with an upgrade pack giving 17-inch alloys, rear disc brakes, sunroof, and the heated steering wheel. The top-of-the-line trim is the new XSE. It has 17-inch alloys, rear discs, sunroof, 7.0-inch navigation screen, satellite radio, power driver's seat, softex leather, proximity key, and tire pressure monitoring. There is a price increase to go with all of this, but it ranges from just $300 to $600 depending on trim.
