This is your first look at the latest version of the best-selling large van in the world. It's a tease of the all-new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which will debut next year.
Mercedes-Benz gave the first look at the van at the inaugural North American Commercial vehicle show, this week in Atlanta, GA. It has familiar Benz styling, more connectivity, and new ways to help get work done. The new van has the upright cab and massive windshield of the current model, but the new nose has the angled headlights and big bold grille of the company's newest cars and SUVs.
Cover the rest of the van with your hand, and it could easily be a new GLE or GLS. Which is much more stylish than the Ford Transit that looks like a Transit, or the Chevy Express that looks like a 2003 Chevrolet Express.
The new Sprinter will add modern driving assistance systems, although Mercedes-Benz isn't yet saying which ones. The Sprinter will receive more variants that offer more features to more specific industries. Think different racks, shelving, cages, and other accessories to help make work easier.
There will be more connectivity as well. Mercedes-Benz says the new Sprinter will "fully reflect the future initiative adVANce." That was a 2016 concept that offered automated cargo space systems to help load and unload as well as intelligent inventory and parts management systems. It also had autonomous delivery robots, although those are not likely to make the new model.
The Mercedes-Benz, then Freightliner, then Dodge, now Mercedes-Benz again Sprinter was the first Euro-style full-size van for Canada and the US when it debuted in 2001. The all-new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will launch in Europe in the first half of next year, and the rest of the world will follow.
