2019 Mazda CX-3 Launched With $20,795 MSRP

The refreshed 2019 Mazda CX-3 subcompact crossover comes with a starting price of $20,795, an increase of $800 compared to the 2018 model.

That extra cash gets you the CX-3's new front seats and a centre console and front armrest redesigned around an electric parking brake switch, which replaces the outgoing version's manual lever. Rear seat passengers benefit from a new armrest with cupholders.

The mid-level GS trim now commands $23,095, up $400. The top-trim GT's base price climbs a whopping $2,800 to $30,795 but now includes AWD and the Technology package that were both optional in 2018.

Mazda has also touched up the CX-3's exterior, giving the car new tail lights, wheels and grille.

Behind the updated grille is a 2.0L, four-cylinder engine carried over from last year but with small adjustments that Mazda says improve its refinement and efficiency and also add a nominal 2 hp, for a new total of 148. Torque is unchanged at 146 lb-ft.

Other changes include the addition of blind spot monitoring to the GX's standard features list (last year it was included in GS and GT models) and the availability of full-leather upholstery in place of the 2018 GT's leatherette option. Mazda also says the new CX-3 boasts better interior materials and sound insulation.

Mazda's latest CX-3 carries forward the most significant change to last year's model, the addition of a manual transmission for the entry-level GX trim. Once again, that gearbox can be had with that car's front-wheel drivetrain or swapped out for a six-speed automatic. All other trims -- GS and GT -- come exclusively with the auto. GS can once again be had with FWD, while GT is now AWD-only.

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is available this month in showrooms Canada-wide.
