Genesis Shows Off Refreshed 2020 G90 in Montreal

Luxury brand Genesis Motors brought the refreshed G90 sedan to the Montreal auto show with the car making its North American debut. It's an evolution of the brand's design language, with new interior updates and a standard V8 engine.

The brand's flagship model gets an all-new nose and new quad-headlights that will be a signature for the brand. The diamond-shape grille has been widened compared with last year's car, with larger vents below it that are now separated by the tip of the grille, instead of running the full width. The rear is completely different, featuring a new full-width taillight, framing the new Genesis lettering on the trunk. The license plate has been lowered into the bumper as well, which the company says makes the car look wider and lower.

Changes inside include a new user interface for the 12.3-inch touchscreen. The interior also features the Genesis black and copper colour scheme. Genesis says it can handle multiple functions on split-screen, which now includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The automaker has also added active noise cancellation which uses the car's audio system in an effort to cancel out the sounds of any unwanted noise, vibration, and harshness.

New driver aids added to the G90 include Lane Follow Assist that can keep the car centred. Highway Driving Assist uses that system and the adaptive cruise to help manage speed and position in-lane. It can monitor the car in front, lane markings, and the nav system. The blind spot monitor now shows a camera view of beside the car from both sides. There's also rear cross-traffic alert with braking, forward collision avoidance with new cyclist detection, and safe exit assist which alerts driver and passenger if something is coming up behind when they try to open the door.

The standard engine in Canada will be the existing 5.0 L V8,  making 420 hp and 383 lb-ft. Though Canadian drivers will be able to special order a 3.3L twin-turbo V6 making 365 hp. Both get an eight-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. The 2020 Genesis G90 is expected to arrive at dealers this summer, with pricing available closer to that date.
